Monku — Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 5, 2026

Monku ("the app") is a maths learning game for children. We designed it to collect as little information as possible.

What we collect

Playing offline (no account): nothing leaves the device. All progress (level, XP, streaks, avatar) is stored only on your device.

With an optional account: to enable world rankings, player-vs-player sparring and coins, the app stores on our servers:

Coins and payments

Monku is paid for with coins. A new account receives 89 coins free, and playing costs 3 coins on each school day — weekends and Philippine holidays are free, and days you do not play cost nothing. When the coins run out, new quests pause; nothing is deleted.

If a grown-up buys more coins, we store:

We never see or store card or bank details. Payments are handled entirely by GCash, Maya or PayPal, and only they see the payment instrument. PayPal payments are processed by Handy Hack, the business that operates Monku; PayPal's own privacy policy applies to what PayPal collects.

Buying coins is placed behind a parental check, and coins can only be spent on appearance — costumes, hats, weapons and effects — and on days of practice. Nothing purchasable affects accuracy, speed, XP, damage or who a child is matched against.

We keep payment records for as long as we are required to for accounting and to resolve disputes, even if the account is deleted. Those records contain no personal information beyond the monk name and the reference.

What we do NOT collect

If a parent emails us for support, we of course see that email address, and we use it only to answer.

How the information is used

Account data is used only to run the game's online features — leaderboards, the monthly Grand Trial, sparring matches, and the coin balance. It is never sold, shared, or used for advertising.

An administrator can see monk names, levels, coin balances and payment references in order to release coins after a wallet transfer and to answer support requests.

Data retention & deletion

A parent or guardian may request deletion of an account and all its data at any time by contacting us at hellomonku@gmail.com with the monk name. We will delete the account within 30 days. As noted above, anonymised payment records are kept for accounting purposes.

Children's privacy

The app is built for children and follows a data-minimisation approach consistent with COPPA and GDPR-K: no personal information is required to play, online accounts use pseudonyms only, all social features are limited to game actions (no messaging), and purchases sit behind a parental check.
